Exploring the Safety of DNJ

Mulberry leaves have been used for thousands of years for food and medicinal purposes, and their safety has been tested over time.

Mulberry leaves were recognized by the Ministry of Health of China in 1993 as a species with the same origin of food and medicine. Mulberry leaves are not only of great medicinal value but also consumed as common food.

Pharmacogenetic tests have shown that DNJ has a short residence time in the human body with no toxic accumulation. DNJ does not need to be broken down by the liver, it is excreted in the form of a prototype with no metabolic by-products.

The safety of DNJ is further confirmed by the results of a Toxicology study (2012). The cytotoxic and genotoxic ethanolic extract has an IC50 of 5g/kg body weight and no toxicity was detected in the rats fed with DNJ.
